Regraped

Regraped is a band that I've recently discovered and I'm amazed that I've never heard of before.  They've been broken up for over a decade and I'm hearing their music for the first time just recently.  All I can say is that it's a shame that this band has remained so obscure.  Regraped are from Raleigh, NC and play dual bass like Cop Shoot Cop or Dianogah but they don't sound anything like those bands.  They're more along the lines of maybe Enemymine which also has two bass players where one is played more like a guitar a lot of the time.  And like Enemymine they have more aggression than the typical Math Rock band which seems to be the genre they get most lumped into from what I've read online.  This link contains some self-released cassettes, compilation tracks and split records including one with another great band from Raleigh called Shiny Beast which I'll probably write about some other time.  Thanks to Gus at The Dust Bowl for introducing me to this band and check out his blog because the guy has great taste in music.

  1. Shiny Beast's EP is one of my most treasured records. It pains me that, other than the excellent myspace tracks, I've never had my hands on anything else - looks like that compilation is dead in the water. I'd be DELIGHTED if you'd anything to put up by them

  2. One dude from this band moved to Portland after Regraped and played in several great bands, including Lachrymator and Ocifur. (I might have misspelled that second one)

Thanks for this post. Great stuff.

  3. Great upload. I went to college in Raleigh during the early to mid 90s. We had a great scene in those days.

David Sullivan, now of Red Fang, played in Shiny Beast. If you contact him via the Red Fang myspace site, he might hook you up with some unreleased stuff.

I wish they had recorded some music, but Chapel Hill's Cobra Khan was probably one of the best noise bands of the 90s.

  4. Actually I have a bunch of Shiny Beast which I will try to post sometime this week when I can find the time. I never really got into Red Fang although I love Sullivan's other band The Last Of The Juanitas. I never heard of Cobra Khan but if it's anything like Regraped, Red Fang etc I would love to hear some.

  5. I just found this link and think that it's awesome this got posted on my birthday. My name is Kip and I was one of the bass players in Regraped. Gus does have great taste in music and was, at one time, going to issue a Regraped record. If anyone knows a good label that wants to do the same...holler at me: kip@kiplarson.com.

  6. Hey Kip, I'm glad that you don't mind that I posted this. And if you do have plans to reissue any of these songs let me know and I can replace the upload with a link to purchase the record. Regraped is fantastic by the way. I feel like I've been listening to these songs practically on a daily basis since I got my hand on it.

  9. The sound of the two bassist is awesome, the drummer also makes great changes in rhythm and goes along with one of the bass players on a perfect harmony.

  12. Hi Kip. Is the Electric Fawn stuff on Bandcamp? I cannot find it. Just picked up digital copies of what was available of the Regraped discography there.
